February 6, 2015
Our Friday started with breakfast in the flat, but we ran out of cereal. So, we headed out to the market only to find all of them were closed. *sigh* Eventually we were on our way only for my purse to break as soon as we got on the street. Then Jason realized he forgot his sunglasses. Then we had to go back up to start the dishwasher. Oof!
Finally we were on our way to the Picasso Museum.
It started off all well and good, but then dude (Picasso) started getting weird. And our budding artists were baffled with how his work seemed to go downhill. Oh well. It made me ready to leave once we got to the end:
We were headed towards some lunch after that at a recommended vegetarian place that is apparently an international chain: Maoz. Falafel again. Yum. One of the very few things all of us will eat. Pizza (cheese-less for J), pancakes, and falafel and hummus are pretty much the only thing every one of us enjoys.
However, before we got to the restaurant, we made a small detour to check out the Catedral de Barcelona.
The "behind the scenes" of that above pic:
We walked around the inside real quick. Nothing like the Sagrada Familia so it didn't take us long.
We're not Catholic, of course, but I snapped this pic real fast because it is Saint Michael the Archangel...the patron saint of police officers so it made me think of my sister-in-law.
And then we finally made it over for our lunch. Very yummy.
Stumbled upon this cute little fountain in a courtyard after leaving the restaurant:
And then we began our journey down La Rambla as planned. This is at the Font of Saint Peter or someone:
And we made it to the end of La Rambla with the big Monumento a Colón (Christoper Columbus statue).
These lions are at the base of Chris. Autumn is crying because I wouldn't let her climb something or other. :(
She eventually cheered up with a lift from Daddy:
At that point we were nearly to the harbor at Port Vell.
They're being pirates:
A real-ish looking pirate ship:
Tippy toes!
We walked along the water front:
I snapped this .2 seconds after Jason admonished Easton for continuing to step closer to the water after he'd told him not to. Easton looks confused which makes me feel sad. It made me feel like he wasn't trying to be naughty.
At that point, we'd gone far enough so we turned and started walking back up La Rambla again:
I snapped this pic because it is art by Joan Miró. I honestly would not even know who he is/was if it wasn't for our "local" elementary school being named for him. If Autumn doesn't get into the boys' international school, she is supposed to go to the Spanish-German Joan Miró Grundschule. Let's hope not.
We came upon the Boqueria and decided to check it out.
Snugglers waiting to cross the street:
It reminded me a lot of the Pike Place Market in Seattle:
We left there in search of "the best" churro café in Barcelona. They were having a siesta. :( Closed. So we kept going for a different random place with churros:
The churros at the place yesterday were better. :(
Then we had a long journey home. Waiting for Dalton to find a bathroom (thirsty fellows have to pee a whole lot too).
A small sample of other video clips from the day. Enjoy!
And Day 5 is here.
