Muttertag

Mother's Day isn't as big of a "thing" here in Germany, but it was definitely still something.  I'm unclear on Father's Day in Germany, though.  As we were preparing to move here, I remember that "Vatertag" fell on the same day as "Himmelfahrt" (Ascension Day: a public holiday here that is actually later this week) and it's less of a family thing and more of a "Dudes-go-out-and-get-drunk Day".  But we haven't celebrated it yet so stay tuned.

Back to Muttertag.

It was a wonderful day, full of things that make me happy...like sleeping in.  I slept until about 9:30 which was great as we'd had friends over till about 11:00 the night before and it involved margaritas.  Then we got ready for church, but Jason made all the kids' breakfast, emptied and refilled the dishwasher, got the kids' clothes for church.  It was wonderful.

Church was lovely and they gave all the women a rose and all the mamas got a special "Daring Faith Hero" pin.  When we picked up the kids, they also had made gifts (very quickly!) with adorable little frames and pictures:

After church we headed to one of my favorite places here in Berlin: a wonderful little café called Barcomi's.  Unlike in the States on Mother's Day, it was no trouble to walk right in and get a table for 5 right away.

The woman who owns/runs it is from Seattle.  So they have Americany things.  They also had vegan things.  And everything is delicious. It can be a little on the pricier side for cheapskates like us, and the kids weren't totally full after their food.  Yesterday I shared a bagel sandwich (garlic bagel, sundried tomato cream cheese, sprouts, tomato and cucumber) with Dalton.  I also had a small veggie quiche AND a slice of carrot cake (which Autumn ate with me despite claiming to hate both carrots and raisins).  Jason was excited to try all sorts of vegan options and they were quite tasty.  Autumn and Dalton both had blueberry muffins.  Easton had a bagel.  We spent about twice as much as we spent when we went after church on Easter Sunday, but I decided I was worth it. Ha ha ha.  ;)

We came home and I got to dig into some surprises.  I had some precious little cards from my precious little ones:

Easton's: we're wearing shirts in our favorite color watching a movie on my favorite animal.  His hair color was so perfect!

Autumn's: she's giving me my Mother's Day card here:

And an elephant from her as well:

And then Dalton made a card:

AND this book.

I also had some fun little gifts to open:

And then I could do whatever I wanted.  The boys offered to play Disneyland Kinect (a video game, but still Disney) with me.  Autumn offered a tea party.  I voted to watch Grey's Anatomy which took forever to get to work.  I also called my own mama in the afternoon.

Jason fed the kids dinner (I was still plenty full from Barcomi's), did more dishes, got them through their showers, set out clothes for the next day, and then we watched the Big Bang Theory season finale, Jason made us each a smoothie, and then we called it a day.

It was wonderful.
